Sightfield Go Privacy Policy

Last updated September 3, 2026

This policy explains what Sightfield Go — the traveler app at go.sightfield.co, made by Sightfield, Inc. (“Sightfield”, “we”, “us”) of Dublin, Ohio, USA — collects, what it stores on your device, and what it never records. Go opens guides that other people publish with Sightfield Maps; their content is theirs, and the Maps product has its own privacy policy for publishers.

The short version

  • You can open any guide without an account. We do not know who you are when you do.
  • An account is an email address and nothing else. There is no password.
  • What you save — guides, want-to-go and been marks, private notes — is stored under your account and readable only by you.
  • Guide opens and saves are counted as anonymous totals per guide. No user id, no timestamps per event.
  • Go sets no cookies, runs no advertising trackers, and never sells or rents personal information.

Using Go without an account

Opening a guide from a link or QR code needs no sign-in. In that mode Go keeps everything on your device:

  • Recent guides — the guides you have opened, so they reappear in your Maps list on this device.
  • Offline copies — a guide’s place data and photos, cached so a saved guide opens without a connection. The map background itself is not cached and loads when you are online.
  • Preferences — your theme choice (light, dark, or system) and a short queue of guides waiting to load.

None of this leaves your device. Clearing the site’s data in your browser removes it, and signing out offers an “erase my maps from this device” option that does the same.

When you sign in

Saving a guide to your library, or marking and annotating a place, requires an account so those things can follow you between devices. Signing in is passwordless: you enter your email address and we email you a six-digit code. To make that work we store:

  • Your email address, a random account identifier, and the date the account was created.
  • Sign-in codes, stored hashed, valid for ten minutes and for a single use, together with an attempt counter.
  • Rate-limit counters keyed on a hash of your email address, kept for about a day, so codes cannot be requested or guessed without limit.

The code email is delivered by Resend, our email provider, from auth.sightfield.co. We do not send marketing email, and we never send anything to that address except the codes you ask for.

What you save

  • Your library — for each saved guide, its identifier, name, cover image, publisher name, place count, and when you saved and last opened it. Go does not copy the guide’s content into your account; it fetches the published guide when you open it.
  • Your private layer — a want-to-go or been mark and a free-text note on any place within a guide. A note is private: our database rules let only your account read it, and we do not read notes except where the law requires or you ask us to for support. Clearing both the mark and the note deletes the record.

What we count

When a guide is opened or saved in Go, we add one to that guide’s open or save total. That is the whole record: no account identifier, no device identifier, no time of the event. Saves are counted once per device. The same totals feed an internal, aggregate dashboard that shows daily counts per guide. We may show a guide’s totals to its publisher; nothing in them can identify you.

Services that see technical data

Like any web app, Go relies on providers that receive the standard technical information a request carries — your IP address, browser, and the page requested:

  • Google Firebase and Google Cloud — sign-in, the database that holds your account and library, and hosting, including request logs we use to operate and secure the service.
  • Sightfield Maps (maps.sightfield.co) — Go fetches a guide’s published data from our own Maps service. The request carries nothing about your account.
  • Mapbox — the map background is drawn from Mapbox tiles, fetched by your browser when a map is on screen.
  • Image hosts — a guide’s photos load from wherever its publisher placed them, often Unsplash, which is credited beneath the image.
  • Google Maps — only when you tap Directions, which opens Google Maps with the place’s coordinates.
  • Resend — delivers sign-in codes to your email address.

Each acts on our instructions or under its own privacy policy for the request your browser makes. We do not use analytics or advertising networks in Go.

Cookies and browser storage

Go sets no cookies. Your session is held in your browser’s own storage, alongside the offline caches and preferences described above. Clearing site data for go.sightfield.co removes all of it and signs you out.

How we use information

We use the information above to run Go — sign you in, keep your library in sync, open guides offline — to keep the service secure, and to understand in aggregate how guides are used. We share it only with the providers listed here, each acting on our instructions, or when the law requires. We do not sell or rent personal information and we do not use it for advertising.

Retention

  • Account, library, and private-layer data: until you delete it or ask us to delete your account.
  • Sign-in codes: ten minutes. Rate-limit counters: about one day.
  • On-device caches and preferences: until you clear them, erase them at sign-out, or remove the guide.
  • Hosting request logs: for the period our hosting provider retains them, used only for operations and security.

Your choices and rights

You can remove any guide, mark, or note in the app at any time. To delete your account and everything stored under it, or to ask what we hold about you, email info@sightfield.co from the address on the account; we will confirm and act within a reasonable time. Depending on where you live you may have further rights under laws such as the GDPR or US state privacy laws, and we will honor them.

Where data is stored

Sightfield is a US company and stores account data on Google Cloud infrastructure in the United States. If you use Go from elsewhere, your information is transferred to and processed there.

Children

Go is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has created an account, email info@sightfield.co and we will delete it.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version appears at this address with the date above. A material change to what Go collects will be noted in the app before it takes effect.
