Sightfield Maps Terms of Service

Last updated September 3, 2026

These terms are an agreement between you and Sightfield, Inc. (“Sightfield”, “we”, “us”) of Dublin, Ohio, USA, and govern your use of Sightfield Maps at maps.sightfield.co, including its embeds, share pages, and APIs (together, “Maps”). By creating an account or using Maps you agree to them. If you are using Maps for an organization, you confirm you have authority to bind it, and “you” includes that organization.

What Maps is

Maps turns a spreadsheet or file of places into an interactive map: you upload data, Maps reads it with the help of AI services and designs place cards, you adjust the result, and you publish it as an embed for your website and a public share page. Published maps can also be opened and saved in Sightfield Go by travelers. Features and limits vary by plan; the current plans and what they include are shown in the app.

Eligibility and your account

You must be at least 18, or the age of majority where you live, to create an account. You sign in with your email address and a code we send to it; whoever controls that mailbox controls the account, so keep it secure and tell us at once if you believe it has been compromised. You are responsible for everything done under your account. Give us an email address you own and keep it current — it is how we reach you about your account, your plan, and these terms.

Your content

The files you upload, the edits you make, and the maps you build are yours (“your content”). We claim no ownership of them. So that Maps can work, you grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, store, copy, process, and display your content, and, once you publish, to distribute it publicly through embeds, share pages, Sightfield Go, and the caches and services that deliver them. Processing includes sending bounded parts of your data to the AI, geocoding, and mapping providers described in the Maps Privacy Policy. The license lasts as long as the content is in Maps, plus the time it reasonably takes for caches and copies to clear after you delete or unpublish it.

You confirm, for everything you upload or publish, that:

  • you own it or have the rights and permissions needed to use and publish it, including for any photos, logos, and text;
  • it does not contain sensitive personal information, and any personal information in it is there lawfully — Maps is for places, not for profiles of private individuals;
  • it is not unlawful, deceptive, defamatory, infringing, or harmful, and it does not impersonate anyone;
  • you will keep a copy elsewhere of anything you cannot afford to lose.

We do not review your content, but we may remove or unpublish content that we reasonably believe breaks these terms or the law, and we will tell you when we do unless the law prevents it.

Publishing is public

Publishing a map makes it available to anyone with its link or embed code: on your website, on its share page at sightfield.co, in Sightfield Go, and, unless you restrict the embed to your own domains, on any site that embeds it. Your display name, or the publisher name and logo you set, appears on the map. Unpublishing stops new loads; copies already cached by browsers, search engines, or travelers who saved the map in Go may persist for a time.

Embedding on your sites

You may embed your published maps on websites you own or are authorized to publish on. Because an embed loads services such as Mapbox and image hosts in your visitors’ browsers, you are responsible for any notices or consents your site needs where it operates. On the Free plan the embed carries a small “Sightfield” mark; do not hide, remove, or alter it except by moving to a plan that removes it. Do not use an embed to frame, disguise, or misrepresent our service.

Plans, quotas, and billing

Free plan. The Free plan is free, with the limits shown in the app — for example the number of maps, the locations a map shows, and the interactive opens allowed per month. When a monthly quota is used up, the interactive map pauses until the next month while the static view and share page keep working.

Paid plans. Paid plans are monthly subscriptions billed in US dollars through Stripe, our payment processor. They renew automatically each month until you cancel. You can change or cancel your plan in the app at any time; an upgrade takes effect immediately with a prorated charge, and a cancellation or downgrade takes effect at the end of the current billing period. Prices exclude taxes, which are added where they apply. If a payment fails we may retry it and, after a reasonable time, move the account to the Free plan. Except where the law requires otherwise, payments are non-refundable.

Moving down a plan. Maps or features beyond the new plan’s limits are not deleted, but a map over a limit may show fewer locations, lose paid features on republish, or be unpublished until it fits. The app tells you what changes before you confirm.

Price changes. We may change plan prices and limits. A change that affects a plan you pay for takes effect at your next renewal at least 30 days after we notify you by email; if you do not agree, cancel before then.

Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • use Maps to publish or embed anything unlawful, deceptive, infringing, or harmful, or to collect data on visitors without a lawful basis;
  • upload malware, or files designed to disrupt Maps or the services behind it;
  • disrupt Maps, probe or circumvent its security, quotas, or plan limits, or share one account across many people or organizations to avoid them;
  • scrape, crawl, or bulk-download other publishers’ maps, or resell or white-label Maps without a plan that allows it;
  • reverse-engineer Maps except where the law allows it regardless of this term.

Third-party services

Maps is built on services we do not control — Mapbox for map rendering, Unsplash for stock photography, AI providers for reading your data, Geoapify for geocoding, Stripe for payments, and Google Cloud for hosting. Their terms apply to your use of them through Maps. In particular, Unsplash photos must keep the attribution Maps shows, and map data remains subject to Mapbox’s and its data providers’ terms. Place facts in your maps — hours, addresses, coordinates — are only as good as the data and the geocoder; verify what matters.

Our intellectual property

Maps — its software, design, card layouts, and the Sightfield name, logo, and marks — belongs to Sightfield or its licensors. These terms give you the right to use it, not ownership of it. If you send us feedback or suggestions, we may use them without obligation to you.

Copyright complaints

If you believe a published map infringes your copyright or other rights, email info@sightfield.co with the map’s link, the specific content, your contact details, and a statement of your rights, and we will review it and act, including removing content and, for repeat infringers, closing accounts.

Changes to Maps

We improve Maps continuously and may add, change, or retire features, plans, and limits. Features marked as coming soon are not promised. Where a change materially reduces what a paid plan includes, we will tell you in advance and you may cancel.

Ending the agreement

You can end it at any time by deleting your account in Settings, which permanently removes your maps, published pages, data, and billing record as described in the Maps Privacy Policy, and cancels any subscription. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, is unpaid, or puts other users or the service at risk, giving notice where practical. The sections on your content license (to the extent copies persist), intellectual property, disclaimers, limitation of liability, indemnity, and governing law survive.

Disclaimer

Maps is provided as is and as available, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose, uninterrupted operation, or the accuracy of any map, place, coordinate, or AI-generated layout, description, or classification. We do not promise any level of traffic, ranking, or business result from a published map.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Sightfield will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, lost profits, lost data, or business interruption arising from Maps or these terms. Our total liability for all claims relating to Maps in any twelve-month period will not exceed the greater of the amount you paid us in that period and one hundred US dollars. Some jurisdictions do not allow these limits; where that is the case they apply to the extent permitted.

Indemnity

You will defend and hold Sightfield harmless from claims, damages, and reasonable costs arising from your content, your maps, the websites you embed them on, or your breach of these terms or the law.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Ohio, USA, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Disputes will be resolved in the state or federal courts located in Ohio, and you consent to their jurisdiction, unless the law where you live gives you the right to bring a claim elsewhere.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as Maps evolves. The current version is always at this address, with the date above. A material change will be announced in the app or by email before it takes effect; continuing to use Maps afterwards means you accept it.
